I designed costumes, scenery, and projections for The Little Prince – Oak Ridge Playhouse’s Junior Playhouse series (Anderson County, Tennessee). One of the things I love most about this play is its appeal to both children and adults. In fact, I had previously only been exposed to performances geared largely to an adult audience. With this design I attempted to make art that would be equally enjoyable to both demographics. However, concessions had to be made due to this being performed by students varying in age from Middle School to High School.
My initial inspiration for this production was the following scene from the 1983 movie, The Right Stuff and the Little Nemo comic strip by Windsor McCay. Unfortunately due largely to time constraints, The Right Stuff didn’t get to play as much of a role in the final production as I had wished and we eventually went with a more traditional design for the pilot and his aircraft.
Out of all the plays I have designed, this is the one I most want to revisit. Click here to access my mood boards and artistic vision for a future production of The Little Prince.
